Harrison Burton, the 18-year-old son of former Monster Energy NASCAR Cup star Jeff Burton, is quickly gaining fans. The rising young star has won a NASCAR K&N title and will race fulltime in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck series this season.
He’s also racing in the ARCA series; Saturday evening at Daytona International Speedway, Burton picked up his third career ARCA victory in his first career start at the superspeedway. After it was over Burton handed the checkered flag to a young fan, probably gaining a follower for life, and adding to that growing fan base.
No fan however will ever be as big as his mom Kim.
Kim Burton has been Harrisons cheerleader from the time he was four and started racing. She’s missed only one race, and that happened to be a K&N win at Memphis in 2017. She can often be seen on top of the pit box nervously watching her son and providing split second updates on Twitter. During the TV broadcast when Harrison is leading a camera is normally trained on Kim as she plays out her emotions.
“For me she has been the only person that’s been to almost every single race,” Harrison said. “She’s been there for the highs, for the hard-fought wins and then for the lows, for the crashes. To have her here once again for another high is pretty cool.”
