Pierre Gasly says he can clearly see that his aggression is costing him against Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen.
The Frenchman is yet to get anywhere near Verstappen in his debut year with Red Bull, following his promotion from junior team Toro Rosso.
The Chinese Grand Prix marked Gasly’s first Q3 appearance of the season, but still he was 0.8s adrift on Verstappen, while a lonely race followed as he failed to join his team-mate in pressurising the Ferraris.
After saying on many occasions that his driving style does not suit the RB15, Gasly has now been able to pinpoint the exact areas where he is losing out to his partner.
“It’s not so much turn-in, most of the time it’s mainly exits, just putting the power down. I’m sliding too much, basically,” he told RaceFans.net.
“I think it’s being a bit too aggressive with the car, asking a bit too much to the rear axle so stressing the rear.
“At this moment we know that’s one thing we’re trying to improve: the rear potential on the exit. [I’m] a bit too aggressive so there are things we try to improve to go around it and try to make it a bit better through these areas.
“I think there are still areas where we can make it a bit more suitable to me, and also on my side to basically adapt my driving to the car to extract more performance.”
