Sebastian Vettel has revealed a simulator has arrived at his home for a possible venture into virtual racing, but is not sure how much time he can dedicate to it.
There has been a wish to see more drivers join the world of online racing, especially with just six current Formula 1 drivers taking part in the second and third rounds of the Formula 1’s Virtual Grand Prix series.
Charles Leclerc got to winning ways instantly after making his debut in round two, but he could soon have his Ferrari team-mate for company as Vettel is ready to see what all the fuss is about.
“The truth is I didn’t have a simulator until a couple of days ago, so I haven’t been tempted because I didn’t have the chance,” Vettel said in an online conference call.
“I have heard a lot of things about it, so I figured I should get one and try, but I still need to set it up properly. Generally I am not going to foresee a career in sim racing – I think it is more something to try for fun.
“I’ve grown up with some of the stuff and I have been playing some games, but to be honest since I had kids it’s not the first thing on my list to do.
“But we’ll see how much time there will be.
“I’m aware that some people take it very seriously and spend a lot of time there, but I also enjoy doing other things so it will be a bit of a mix.”
So perhaps a watching brief for Vettel when the virtual Chinese Grand Prix takes place on Sunday at 6pm BST. Maybe we will see the four-time World Champion for round four…
