The 2020 Chinese Grand Prix, originally set to take place April 17-19, has been postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak, per a release published Wednesday by Formula 1.
The event’s official promoter, Juss Sports Group, requested the delay after discussing the situation with the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of People’s Republic of China. From the statement:
Formula 1 has yet to decide on an alternative race weekend for the Chinese GP, but says all parties involved are studying possible alternatives “should the situation improve.” This means round four of the 2020 season will now take place in the Netherlands instead of China.
“The Chinese Grand Prix has always been a very important part of the F1 calendar and the fans are always incredible,” Formula 1 said in the statement. “We all look forward to racing in China as soon as possible and wish everyone in the country the best during this difficult time.”
