Trident F2 car impounded after Anthoine Hubert crash

Trident have confirmed that one of their F2 cars has been impounded by the authorities investigating the crash that claimed the life of Anthoine Hubert.

Hubert was killed in a horrific crash at Spa-Francorchamps’ Raidillon corner that also involved Juan Manuel Correa and Trident’s Giuliano Alesi during the F2 Feature Race.

Investigations into the incident are now underway as F2 heads for Monza, but Trident will be flying solo with Alesi over the weekend after one of their cars was seized as part of the investigation.

“The Belgian authorities are investigating, and that led to the temporary seizure of some cars,” said the team in their Italian GP preview.

“At Monza, the banner of Team Trident will be held by Ferrari Driver Academy man Giuliano Alesi. The second car will not be available for the aforementioned cause, so reasons of force majeure will prevent Ralph Boschung from competing in the Italian round of the series.”

Alesi was uninjured in the crash, but Correa wasn’t so lucky and remains in intensive care with fractures to his legs and a minor spinal injury.

The Sauber Junior Team by Charouz will not replacing Correa for the Italian round, leaving Ferrari prospect Callum Ilott as their only representative.

Meanwhile BWT Arden, the team Hubert was driving for at the time of his fatal accident, are expected to run a single car for Tatiana Calderon.

Hubert served as a member of the Renault Driver Academy, and as reported by Crash.net, the team had already agreed his F2 programme for 2020 earlier on the day of his death.
