It sounds very mean.
Seeing is believing, and this brief video from Roadshow Executive Editor Chris Paukert provides a little visual proof of the muscle from the Hellcat-powered Dodge Durango Pursuit running in the One Lap of America.
Nicknamed the Speed Trap as a joke about its police lights and body livery, this tuned Dodge Durango SRT has the Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged V8. For even more muscle, it packs Kooks long-tube headers, high-flowing catalytic converters, and low-restriction cat-back exhaust. The team’s claimed output for the mill with these modifications is 797 horsepower (594 kilowatts) and 707 pound-feet (959 Newton-meters) of torque. In addition, a set of Mopar Performance springs lowers the ride height, and a set of 20-inch Pirelli performance tires keep the SUV sticking to the road.
The Speed Trap competed in last year’s One Lap of America, too, but it wasn’t nearly as wild at the time because the SUV packed a 6.4-liter V8 with 475 hp (354 kW). The Durango managed to finish in 24th place out of 50 participants in 2018. With over 300 hp (224 kW) on tap this time, the final position could be much higher.
The One Lap of America is the modern evolution of the Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. Inside of the original outlaw race across America, the event is now a series of time trial autocross and track events with participants driving between each one. Competitors must use a street legal machine and aren’t allowed to have a support crew. This year’s event runs from May 4 through 11.
