Keen to see how Robert Kubica performs on his F1 return, former rival Mark Webber admits there are a “few open questions” about the Pole’s limitations.
This season Kubica will complete the fairy tale as he returns to the Formula 1 grid eight years after suffering a horrific crash at the Ronde di Andora rally.
His right arm was partially severed, seemingly putting an end to his motor racing career.
However, in the ensuing years, a determined Kubica has worked his way back into single-seater racing and this year, after spending 2018 as Williams test driver, he will race for the team.
Webber, who joined Kubica on the podium in Monaco and Belgium back in 2010, admits there are still questions about how he will perform.
“I’m a little bit nervous about Robert,” Webber told WTF1.com.
“I’m a huge fan but I just hope that his restrictions with his right arm aren’t too frustrating for him in certain scenarios – like driving in the rain or aquaplaning or jumping kerbs or those type of things.
“Mentally there is no question about it.
“Robert is in incredible shape, he’s very hungry to prove to himself – that’s the most important thing to prove it to himself.
“He doesn’t need to prove to anyone else but yeah there are a few open questions there.”
Webber raced against Kubica in F1 but will we see the same Robert that we did back then? ? @aussiegrit #f1 #formula1 #robertkubica #wtf1
