2018 Subaru Legacy, Outback: Recall Alert

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 228,600 model-year 2018 Subaru Legacy sedans and Outback wagons

The Problem: Due to a software error, the low-fuel warning light may not illuminate at the intended remaining fuel level and the miles-to-empty display may incorrectly indicate a positive number despite the tank being empty, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly run out of fuel and stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will reprogram the combination meter software for free.

What Owners Should Do: Subaru did not immediately provide an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 844-373-6614, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
