2018 Toyota Camry teased again ahead of Thailand debut on October 29 – Dynamic Force Engine seen

Another teaser for the eighth-generation (XV70) Toyota Camry has been uploaded by Toyota Thailand, this time in the form of a 15-second video. The all-new D-segment sedan is slated to make its debut in the kingdom on October 29, which is merely a few days away.

Much of what is shown in the video remains rather familiar, including the fact that the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) will underpin the Camry, a platform also used for the Prius and C-HR.

However, we now have some idea of what will power the Thailand-spec Camry based on the brief glimpse of a transparent bonnet in the video, which appears to be a member of Toyota’s latest Dynamic Force Engine range.

Likely the A25A-FKS 2.5 litre unit (there’s also a 2.0 litre version) considering the design of the engine cover and location of the engine oil filler, the naturally-aspirated four-pot makes 208 PS and 252 Nm, with an eight-speed automatic transmission paired with it.

The mill comes with technologies such as VVT-iE on the intake cam for better response, VVT-i for the exhaust and a D-4S port- and direct-injection system. Toyota claims a maximum thermal efficiency of 40% for the engine, and up to 41% with the Camry Hybrid, the former being one of the highest in a production car.

While the matter above is highly likely, we’ll have to wait for next week for full details about the Thailand-spec Camry to confirm anything. Other engine options include the familiar 2.0 litre 6AR-FSE (167 PS/199 Nm) and 2.5 litre 2AR-FXE on the Camry Hybrid (total system output of 205 PS), with both four-cylinder engines currently being offered on Camry models sold in Malaysia.

There’s also the possibility of the new Camry Hybrid being made available in Thailand, which employs a Dynamic Force Engine (A25A-FXS) with 178 PS and 221 Nm, a 120 PS/202 Nm electric motor, and a lithium-ion/nickel-metal hydride battery for a total system output of 211 PS.
