2019 Jeep Cherokee: Recall Alert

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 86,000 model-year 2019 Jeep Cherokee SUVs equipped with 2.4-liter engines

The Problem: Due to a malfunctioning powertrain controller, in rare instances, the affected vehicles will exhibit an engine stall during deceleration, most often while slowing to a stop, increasing the risk of a crash.

Jeep manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said the engine may be immediately restarted if a stall occurs. It also said that it's unaware of any related accidents or injuries.

The Fix: Dealers will reflash the powertrain controller for free.

What Owners Should Do: FCA did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the manufacturer at 800-853-1403, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
