Looks like November 16 will see the new Toyota Corolla sedan unveiled across the globe. We already know that the 12th-generation of one of the most famous car nameplates will be unwrapped this Friday at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China – now, Toyota has released a teaser image of the sedan with an alert that says it will be revealed on Thursday.

The new 2020 Toyota Corolla’s North American reveal will happen Thursday night in Carmel, California, 7pm PST on November 15. That’s 11am late Friday morning here – perhaps it’ll be a simultaneous reveal in the US and China.

We’ve brightened up the teaser image above, and it reveals a gaping mouth look familiar from the already-released Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports wagon. However, the details differ. While the headlamps with those distinctive triple curve LED daytime running lights remain, the slim grille that bridges the lights does not house the Toyota logo, which sits above the grille on the body coloured island. Without the emblem there, the slim grille becomes visually separated from the lower grille.

Below, the bumper is also unique to the sedan. While the hatchback gets fog lamps residing at the lower edges of the “mouth”, the image above shows side air-intake style extensions to the mouth, and they house horizontal strip LED fog lamps. Also, the hatch’s prominent (and floating) chin has been straightened out here for a more conventional look – which do you prefer? Here’s how the rear end might look like.

Revealed in March in the US, the Corolla Hatchback is powered by a new 2.0 litre Dynamic Force naturally-aspirated engine with 168 hp and 205 Nm of torque. Physically lighter and smaller than the old 1.8L unit, the M20A-FKS comes with Toyota’s D-4S direct and port injection system as well as VVT-iE electric variable valve timing on the intake side (VVT-i for exhaust).

The engine is available with a Direct Shift-CVT (Toyota USA calls it Dynamic-Shift CVT) or a six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) – we’ve detailed both new gearbox additions. The world’s most popular car is about to get greater than ever, Toyota says. Younger than ever too, if we might add.
