E10 was first brought in at the start of September as the Government looked to introduce a new “greener” petrol. It is blended with up to 10 percent renewable ethanol and made up of materials such as low-grade grains, sugars and waste wood.

Whilst the Government acknowledged it could marginally impact fuel economy – generally around one percent – many drivers have complained that it has decreased massively.

A reduction of fuel economy can be seen based on the driving style, weight of the car or even the conditions on the road.

Express reader Matthew Jackson, said: “I noticed a few days ago filling up my tank that it was a new fuel I’d not seen before.

“Long story short, ‘burning a lot quicker’ is a huge understatement.

“I filled up my car, I drove 12 miles with light traffic and one bar had just gone like that.

“I drive a 70-plate car and normally for one bar of petrol to disappear on my dash before this E10 fuel would take at least 30-40 miles and a lot more on the motorway.

“I was in absolute rage.

“Quite frankly I don’t know why the Government is introducing this fuel.

“Yes it may be better for the environment but if I get 12 miles per bar on my tank, I would be consistently stopping at every petrol station to refuel and the price of that would be far too much.

“(It would) stop a lot of people from driving full stop.

“I have filled up more in the month of September than compared to when it was the E5 fuel before September.

“Plus the prices have increased, so I pay out more and I get way less on mileage.
