All-New Kia Sorento Gets Electrified For Very First Time

The hybrid will be available right from the start, while a plug-in hybrid is coming in late 2020.

Since the 2020 Geneva Motor Show was canceled, Kia unveiled the next-generation Sorento model this week online. The new version is built on a new platform, which for the very first time in the 18-year history of Sorento, accommodates hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The hybrid version of the Kia Sorento will be available in Europe right from the start, although we are concerned about its tiny 1.49 kWh battery and 44.2 kW electric motor for a big 7-seat vehicle.

The plug-in hybrid, scheduled in Europe for late 2020, is promised to be “a powerful plug-in hybrid”, but the South Korean manufacturer did not specify any details just yet.

Hopefully, it will not be anything symbolic to just lower the average fleet emission, but a fully blown PHEV like the BMW X5 xDrive45e, equipped with a 24 kWh battery.

The new Sorento for Europe and many other markets will be produced at Kia’s Hwasung manufacturing facility in Korea, while for the North American market Kia will use its West Point, Georgia plant.

Let’s take a look at the new images and videos about the new Sorento:
