BMW Malaysia unveils charging stations in Bangsar

Electrification has played a big part in BMW’s brand presence in Malaysia, and last year was no different, with more than 7,500 units out of the 14,338 vehicles delivered to new customers last year being plug-in hybrid models. To support that growth, the German marque has unveiled six charging stations within the parking facilities at Bangsar Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

This joins the list of BMW charging facilities which so far includes Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Melaka, Weil Hotel in Ipoh, Banjaran Hotsprings in Ipoh and Iconic Hotel in Penang. The just-launched Bangsar location features six charging points, one for each allocated parking space.

These are second-generation BMW i Wallbox Plus units, and are configured for 22 kW three-phase operation. Interface is a Type 2 connection, with charge times between three to five hours. Incidentally, home users interested in a Wallbox Plus can get one for RM5607.32 (until December 31, 2019), with a public charging cable going for RM1,446.41 – a basic home installation will add another RM1,888.

“We began working on these initiatives with the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) as early as 2015 and we have also developed projects on our own with our network of dealerships across the country,” said BMW Group Malaysia MD Harald Hoelzl.

The BMW ChargeNow service, offered as part of the BMW 360° Electric programme, provides customers access to partner charging facilities such as ChargEV, and offers customers 24/7 support and access to all charging locations with the ChargEV network across Malaysia.

The current line-up of electrified models from the BMW group in Malaysia include the BMW X5 xDrive40e, BMW 740Le xDrive, BMW 530e, BMW 330e and MINI Cooper S E All4.
