Anthony Mumford, 53, was thrown from an e-scooter in Twickenham on July 15. He suffered a head injury and was in a coma before his life support was switched off on July 22.

Mr Mumford was on his way home from his business, Toe-Knees cobblers, before he was thrown from the e-scooter.

His partner, Cheryl Evans, had bought him the scooter for his birthday in May to help him get to work more easily.

Ms Evans is now calling for new laws to be put forward to protect riders and require them to wear helmets.

She said: “I bought him the scooter for his birthday in May. I wanted him to be able to get to the shop easier because he couldn’t afford the parking fees.

“He was going to get a helmet but hadn’t yet.

“From what I know he hit a pothole and hit his head.

“People tried to help him, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for that.

“It has been agony, we have been keeping a vigil at his bedside and I can’t believe he has gone.

“I think helmets should be made a legal requirement — no one else should have to through what we have.”

This comes after numerous incidents relating to e-scooters have come about in the past few weeks.

A three-year-old child was hit by an electric scooter last week and has reportedly been left with “life-changing injuries”.

A 16-year-old, Junior Shay Alexander, was killed when a car crashed into him as he was driving an e-scooter in Bromley.
