Drivers given 8.6 million parking tickets by private firms in a year
Petrol and diesel drivers will pay a massive £1,000 more to park their cars in a dramatic 600 percent rise due to a new rule change.
Motorists who own the most polluting vehicles in Hackney will see costs spiral out of control under new legislation introduced by councillors.
It comes after officials set out parking permit fees for the next seven years with prices set to rise by over £1,000 for many.
Costs will rise across the board meaning it is not just the dirtiest petrol and diesel models affected.
The extra charges will be issued on top of existing congestion charge and Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) fees in a double blow for road users.

According to Hackney Council, the price of renewing a permit will rise gradually year-on-year.
Owners with the most polluting diesel models emitting over 256g/km of CO2 emissions will pay £213 to own a permit in 2023/24.
This will rise by £173 to £386 next year before a rise to £558 in 2025/26.
Costs will then soar to £731 just a year later before surpassing £1,000 in 2028/29.
Just a year later the yearly charges will stand at a massive £1,249 meaning motorists will see a four-figure rise before the end of the decade.

Campaigners against the extra fees have branded the dramatic charges as “outrageous”.
Save London Motorcycling told the Telegraph: “The fact that they want to increase these already outrageous charges every year just adds insult to injury.
“If this carries on, some riders will soon have to pay over £1,000 for the tiny bit of parking space they use.”
On average petrol cars emit around 127.6 g CO2/km meaning thousands of road users will also likely be affected.
In this category, permit charges will rise from £113 in 2023 to £185 next year.
Meanwhile, fees will continue to rise every year before reaching £547 by the end of 2030.
Even electric car owners are not exempt from higher charges with base rates also set to increase.
However, costs will only jump from £42 to £54 within seven years in a much more affordable rise.
But, Mete Coban, cabinet member for transport and environment at Hackney Council defended the move.
He explained: “In developing our parking charges, we’ve listened to our residents, who have asked for long-term certainty about permit prices, so they can make informed decisions.”
