The new E10 fuel is made out of 10 percent bioethanol, rather than the five percent drivers currently use. It is said to be more environmentally friendly than the current petrol.

However, it is estimated around one million cars may not work with the E10 fuels.

The Government has provided a website where car owners can check if their car is eligible for use of E10 fuel.

It states: “The E10 petrol check has been created by the Department for Transport (DfT) using information supplied by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association and European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers.

“The information is subject to change and we cannot guarantee its accuracy.

“If your vehicle is fitted with replacement parts this will also affect its accuracy.

“DfT and its partners will not be liable for any damage to your vehicle as a result of you using this service.

“It’s your responsibility to make sure you use the right fuel for your vehicle.”

All vehicles built since 2011 are compatible with E10, as are most from the late 1990s.

But the Government has warned that around five percent of vehicles will not work with it.

On the website, the Government lists a number of cars which may or may not work with the E10 fuel.

It states that any vehicle from classic car manufacturer Triumph from model year 1990 are compatible with E10.

All Victory motorcycles can use petrol that has been blended with up to 10 percent ethanol (E10).
