Millions are expected to watch the match either at home or at pubs and restaurants. However, experts from across the motoring industry have warned drivers could be hit with penalties if a range of precautions are not taken.

Drink Driving

Experts at Swinton Insurance have warned the number of drink driving offences recorded after tonight’s game could spike as fans celebrate England’s success or drown their sorrows.

Data from Road Safety GB shows there was an increase in drink and drug injuries both on the day and after England’s Euro 2016 matches.

Drink and drug injuries surged from six percent to eight percent of all road injuries.

The number of drink and drive incidents resulting in serious injuries also rose from eight percent to 19 percent.

Sam Dawson, Head of Product at Swinton Insurance urged fans to be “mindful” of their alcohol intake or look for alternative transport after the game has finished.

He said: “Euro 2020 is an exciting time for all football lovers, especially after a tough couple of years for the UK.

“However, with all the excitement of anticipating that football is coming home, many of us drink more than usual, and alcohol-related offences increase as a result.

“It is important to remind those participating in the festivities tonight, to be mindful of how they plan to travel home.”

He added: “We want to remind drivers that any amount of alcohol in your bloodstream can impact your driving ability, putting you at risk for causing an accident.

“Driving requires the ability to concentrate, make good judgements and quickly react to situations. Alcohol, however, affects these skills, putting yourself and others in danger.”

Flag waving

Drivers are warned they could be fined up to £1,000 for travelling with an England flag on their car ahead of today’s game.

Although there is no specific rule, flags can block drivers’ vision of the road and prevent them from seeing oncoming hazards.
