Channel 5 series Motorway Cops: Catching Britain’s Speeders follows the police officers who keep the roads safe in the north west of England. Dave Reed and his boss, Inspector Anton Sullivan, were following a black 4×4 which was driving erratically on the M6.

The driver was filmed on a dashcam hitting speeds of 94 miles per hour in “moderate to heavy traffic”.

Both PC Reed and Inspector Sullivan were in unmarked police cars.

When Inspector Sullivan turned his lights on, the driver ignored the police presence and continued to drive recklessly across three lanes of motorway traffic.

Once the driver had attempted to flee, the police were given the green light to pursue, given the driver’s lack of reaction to their emergency equipment.

Whilst the silver unmarked police cars had the lights on and sirens blaring, they became frustrated by other drivers on the motorway, who were slow to realise that they were police.

Inspector Sullivan spoke to other officers on his radio, saying: “The male is going 90 miles per hour.

“He’s swerving lane to lane. He’s trying to indicate for me to overtake him.

“The driver seems to be waving his arms and doing all sorts of signals.

“I don’t know what his problem is.”

Whilst in pursuit, the driver forced his way onto the off-ramp, as well as cutting across a slip road at the last possible moment.

Both officers needed to use the hard shoulder to try and catch up with the erratic driver.

After a five mile chase with all vehicles hitting speeds of more than 90mph, the driver made a sudden stop just before the slip of junction 10.
