GoKL free bus network expansion to cover PPR areas

Last week, during the tabling of Budget 2019, finance minister Lim Guan Eng announced that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has allocated RM20 million for the expansion of the free GoKL bus network, meant to further improve the country’s public transport coverage in the city.

Now, mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan has confirmed that this expansion will cover highly-populated public areas, including the low-cost People’s Housing Programmes (PPR). According to Bernama, Nor Hisham said that studies showed that residents in PPR areas in the capital needed the service.

“With the RM20 million allocation announced in the 2019 budget we will extend the GoKL service network, to make this a shuttle service to take them to and from the train stations,” he said. “The proposal is still being studied, we will make further announcements soon.”

Other proposals are being considered, said Nor Hisham, including the establishment of a special route for public transport vehicles to disperse traffic around Kuala Lumpur.
