GT Sport‘s Daily Races enter a new year, and this week’s new set of three races will see you reaching for the race cars. It’s an unusual selection that sees three events exclusively for track machines, and two for the same category — though there is a twist.
Race A and Race B both use Gr.4 cars. These are cars very closely related to road-going vehicles, just stripped of any extraneous weight and comfort, with higher performance mechanical parts and a nod to aerodynamics. However you don’t entirely have the same choice of cars.
In fact the cars in Race A are provided to you, and you get a choice of four. These are the front-wheel drive cars from the class: Audi TT; Peugeot RCZ; Renault Sport Megane; and Volkswagen Scirocco. All you need to do is pick one and head out to the Outer Loop of the Tokyo Expressway South course — the one without the cargo container section, but with the addition of a terrifying final chicane — for a four lap race.
You’ll head over to “the temple of speed” for Race B, at Italy’s Monza circuit. It’s another four-lapper, but this time you get to choose your Gr.4 car from anything in your garage. However the most effective tactic available (or “meta”) for this particular combination is almost always the Bugatti Veyron Gr.4, the only car in the class ineligible for the flagship FIA Online Championship Manufacturer Series. Use anything else at your peril.
More serious race machinery comes along in Race C, with the Gr.3 cars. These cars are much more loosely based on road cars, commonly only sharing a handful of parts but with a similar body shape, and sharing an engine configuration. They’re exclusively rear-wheel drive too, unlike the more varied Gr.4 category.
You can pick from any of the Gr.3 cars you have in your garage, but you’ll be taking them for a 13-lap race around Interlagos. There’s a special consideration this week too, in that you’ll be required to use both different sets of permitted tires during the race. Failing to do so will see you receive a one-minute penalty, so be sure to make a switch in the pits.
These three races will run through to Monday, January 11 2021, when another new set of three will replace them.
