Honda announce all cars will be electrified by 2022 as Japanese firm reveals electric Jazz

In a live statement from Amsterdam, the brand announced its electrification plans as the Japanese firm announced they would be embracing modern technology. The new Jazz will feature a two-motor hybrid powertrain on a standard model for the first time. Honda’s new car will be available from 2020 and has made its global premiere at this week’s Tokyo Motor Show. The new Jazz will be hybrid only as part of their radical new electrification plan.

Honda revealed all of their model ranges will be electrified by 2022, three years ahead of their previous 2025 target.

Honda will release six brand new electric vehicles over the next 36 months in an ambitious push towards the eco-friendly car market.

The ‘Electric Vision’ event in Amsterdam sets their groundwork for a fresh set of objectives for the popular car firm.

Tom Gardner, Senior Vice President of Honda Motor Europe said: “This shift to electrification will change the face of our model line-up considerably.

“Honda is the world’s largest engine manufacturer, and from what we have announced today we are committing to ending all mainstream non-electrified petrol and diesel production for Europe by the end of 2022.”

The new cars fuel tank is positioned in the centre of the chassis just beneath the front seats, creating a spacious interior.

The new Jazz will also be fitted with the latest safety systems as well as cruise control and Honda’s own collision brake system.

The car is a hybrid and uses both an electric motor and a petrol engine. The vehicle could use a mechanical layout to generate the power the vehicle needs.

The car will join Honda’s CR-Z as the only other hybrid model in the Honda range before more are added at later dates.

The Hybrid CR-Z has been a massive success for the brand accounting for almost 60 per cent of the model’s sales.

UK sales boss Phil Webb has said Honda will help educate potential buyers on how the technology works.

He has estimated the vehicle could sell between 18,000 and 20,000 units per year of the Jazz across the UK alone.

Honda’s first purpose-built fully-electric car, the Honda e, is one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market.

UK drivers will pay £26,000 after the government grant has been taken off in one of the cheaper options to the market.

Cash-strapped motorists can also decide to pay in instalments of just £299 per month to grab the latest technology as early as possible.

Their first challenger to the EV market will cover 136 miles per charge and can be topped up in just 30 minutes using a 100kW rapid charger.

Honda e drivers will have access to the cars state of the art camera mirror system which helps motorists park in tight spaces.

Over 30,000 people have shown an interest in the Honda e and almost 10,000 of those will be heading to UK roads.
