Isuzu Hicom Malaysia receives ISO certifications

Isuzu Hicom Malaysia (IHM) has been awarded the prestigious International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certifications for its Pekan and Shah Alam branches.

IHM CEO Taizo Nakahigashi said it was important for the commercial vehicles manufacturer to receive the ISO 45001:2018 as it’s a testament of the company’s proactive efforts to improve overall occupational health and safety performance in preventing injury and ill-health at the workplace, while protecting longevity.

“As a leader in the light, medium, as well as heavy-duty trucks, it is crucial for us to comply with all local and international regulatory requirements. Our effort towards operational improvements, leading to this certification showcases IHM’s commitment to protect our employees, customers, contractors and service providers from work-related accidents,” he said.

The two plants received the certification from SIRIM QAS International following the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System complying with ISO 45001:2018. The certification covers the following manufacture of pick-up and light duty, medium duty, heavy duty trucks and bus chassis; and contract assembly of heavy and light duty trucks, pick-up trucks, vans, four wheel drivers and bus chassis for franchise holders.

Additionally, both IHM branches were awarded with the ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification for meeting environmental regulations standards set by ISO.

IHM manufactures Isuzu commercial vehicles such as the N-Series light-duty trucks, F-Series medium and heavy-duty trucks and D-Max pick-up truck. Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) data shows that in the first half of the year, Isuzu sold 4,135 units of commercial vehicles. The brand sold more than 11,000 units in 2018.
