Some motorists have spoken of the changes to E10 petrol in September and how it has affected their cars. Many have seen a reduction in their fuel economy, despite the Government reassuring drivers the impact on efficiency would be minimal.

Express.co.uk reader sickofitall, claimed: “My car is only three years old. Underpowered to begin with, as most cars are these days.

“The new E10 has made it even worse. Couldn’t pull you out of bed.

“I’m on the verge of stalling when I try to pull off at the lights now.

“It’s actually dangerous, especially with four people inside, as is the environmentally friendly thing to do these days.

“So, I’m sorry planet, my next car has already been picked out and it’s a diesel.

“Which incidentally would have meant I had no problem getting fuel when every idiot was panic buying.”

Another Express reader, using the handle Yarn dave, said: “I have a two-year-old Toyota Rav4 hybrid, my economy has dropped from 49mpg to 42.9 mpg.

“This is using several full tanks to see these figures.

“I am back on E5 paying five percent more than E10. But at 49.9 per litre it is criminal.”

Many drivers have pointed out the issues relating to fuel economy, with comparisons being made as to how much it has decreased by.

The Government’s E10 introduction document said the new unleaded grade of petrol can marginally impact fuel economy – generally around one percent.

This would, however, be almost unnoticeable to most drivers when making everyday journeys.
