Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales was also selected as one of the seven most scenic winter drives by experts at MotorEasy. The pass has featured on several TV series including Clarkson’s Car Years and for reviewing cars on Top Gear.

Passing through bleak moorlands and past 20m deep limestone potholes, the route is unlike anything seen in the UK.

The standout feature of the road is its quick corners and superb undulation making it a favourite among car fans.

This certainly is the UK’s version of the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife but speed instructions must be followed.

However, the route is definitely not for the faint-hearted and caution is advised.

Drivers flick their cars left and right over the Dales with a sheer cliff face just meters away making this one of the more risky routes around.

Yorkshire Live warns the road is “steep, narrow, winding and unforgiving”.

They warn if there is ice or surface water divers could “very easily” end up leaving the road.

Additional hazards to be aware of include sheep and wild animals in another major safety risk.

Drive the Dales says the six-mile driving route can be completed in around 10 minutes straight.

However, they warn drivers are likely to want to stop and take in the scenery.

Yorkshire Dales National Park said the route was one of the “best known” roads in the area.

They said: “There are many high roads and passes in the Yorkshire Dales with fantastic views of the surrounding valleys and fells, but perhaps the best known is Buttertubs Pass.
