KTM MyRailtime app launched, offers real-time Komuter train schedules for the Klang Valley

Train operator KTM has launched the MyRailtime app, which is a journey planner for those who use the KTM Komuter service. For now, the app – which aims to provide real-time train schedules – supports Komuter lines in the Klang Valley (Port Klang-Tanjung Malim, Sungai Gadut-Batu Caves, Skypark Link). The KTM Komuter Utara, ETS and Intercity train schedules will be added to the app by September.

It was launched today by transport minister Anthony Loke, who said that he came up with the idea after receiving multiple complaints that the KTM Komuter trains were often late. “I have received complaints that the commuter trains are often late. That is not true. Due to phase one of rail upgrading works in the Klang Valley, our commuters’ frequency have dropped from one in every 20 minutes to one in every 45 minutes,” he said.

“So if a passenger misses a train, they will have to wait at least for another 45 minutes for the next train. I understand their frustration. With this application, passengers will know exactly what time the train will reach the station,” he added.

It has been trying times for those who rely on the KTM Komuter, as the rail lines have been undergoing Klang Valley Double Track (KVDT) upgrading work since 2016, with reduced frequency as a result. The KVDT project includes the laying of new tracks that will be easier to maintain, the replacement of 20-year old signalling equipment to reduce metal theft and service disruption, installation of radio systems, upgrading of 16 stations and a new feeder station in Sentul for generation of more electricity to increase train frequencies.

Phase one of the work is expected to be completed by mid 2020. Phase two of the upgrading work will be for commuter tracks outside of the Klang Valley. The KVDT’s original promise was to half train intervals from the original 15 minutes to 7.5 minutes.

Recently, there was a rare spot of good news for KTM Komuter users. A 20% discount for all KTM Komuter fares on all sectors (Klang Valley, Northern, Southern) started in April 2019.
