Lego Technic Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 revealed – 579 pieces, moving V8, alternate hot rod model, RM210

This has been a bumper year for Lego car sets, with the Danish toy brick maker releasing the extremely detailed, extremely complicated Bugatti Chiron we’ve featured on this site, as well as the gadget-laden Aston Martin DB5 as seen in Goldfinger. The company is gearing up for an equally big bang in 2019 with the introduction of a scaled-down Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 tomorrow, January 1.

Like the Chiron, the ZR1 is part of the Technic collection, but unlike the 3,599-piece behemoth, this one is a relative lightweight, weighing in at 579 pieces – or to put it another way, that’s fewer pieces than what the real car has in actual horsepower.

Still, this is a fairly intricate kit, coming with all the trappings of the 1:1 car. These include the typical Corvette long bonnet, large black wheels wrapped in low-profile tyres, massive rear wing and quad central exhausts tips. There’s even working steering and a V8 with pistons that move together with the car, although there’s no transmission as with the Chiron.

As a refresher, the real Corvette ZR1 comes with a 6.2 litre supercharged V8 that snorts out 755 hp and a scarcely believable 969 Nm of torque, paired to either a seven-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic. That one starts at US$119,995 (RM496,400), whereas the Lego version is yours for just a penny under US$50 (RM210).
