Mazda Hints at All-New SUV for Geneva Motor Show Debut

Mazda unveiled its new platform when it took the wraps off its redesigned Mazda3, and it looks like it plans to use the architecture for an SUV. Instead of a redesign of an existing model, however, Mazda is making room in its lineup for an all-new SUV.

Currently, the SUVs in Mazda's lineup comprise the tiny CX-3, compact CX-5 and three-row CX-9; the mid-size CX-7 was canceled after the 2012 model year.

Where will the new SUV fit? The automaker is mum on details, saying only that the new SUV will use the latest version of Mazda's SkyActiv engines, including the SkyActiv-X engine, which "adopts a unique combustion method to combine the free-revving performance of a gasoline engine with the superior response of a diesel," Mazda said in a statement.

Stay tuned for more information from the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, which runs March 7-17.
