Mitsubishi Delica D:5 makes Japanese market debut

The Mitsubishi Delica is back, bringing a new iteration of its tall-riding MPV model into public view for its latest generation for the Japanese market. Taking after the Delica Concept that was unveiled last year, the face of the new Delica D:5 takes after the recently previewed Triton pick-up and Pajero Sport, albeit here with an even more ornate grille than on the concept.

The Delica now wears a face adorned with three rows of lights – LED headlamps reside up top, with two rows of vertical daytime running lights below it, bookending the aforementioned new grile design. Foglamps feature at the bottom corners of the front bumper.

Under the skin, the new Delica gets the automaker’s 2.2 litre DI-D turbodiesel which produces 170 hp and 392 Nm of torque, outputs which are sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic; the driveline offers three modes – 2WD, 4WD and Lock. The diesel mill uses selective catalytic reduction with AdBlue in order to further reduce nitrous oxide emissions.

Inside, its six-seat accommodation is laid out in three rows of individual chairs, the front row is greeted by an all-new dashboard, with the touchscreen taking centrestage. beneath that are the controls for the air-conditioning, drive modes and gear selector.

So far, two trim levels will be available, according to the automaker’s Japanese website – the regular trim, and the more embellished Urban Gear trim level – this brings a revised exterior, a different set of wheels and more equipment within, which includes electric front seat adjustment, powered tailgate and leather seats.
