Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder teased – debut soon?

The Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder is about to arrive, going by the release of this brief teaser clip. Images of the car are fleeting to say the least, though as the top of the Boxster range the Spyder has been rumuoured to use the 4.0 litre naturally aspirated flat-six from the 991.2 911 GT3, albeit downtuned to approximately 400 hp from the Neunelfer‘s 500 hp.

As seen in prior spyshots, the Boxster Spyder bears the hallmarks of a lightweight, manually-fitted fabric roof and twin humps which flow into the decklid, while front and rear bumpers will be more aggressive than the items on the 718 Boxster GTS; these appear to be modelled after those on the also-forthcoming 718 Cayman GT4, which in turn mimics those on the Clubsport racer.

Yet to be confirmed but also rumoured is the inclusion of a PDK transmission option for this latest iteration, along with the six-speed manual gearbox offered as standard on the previous Boxster Spyder. Chassis revisions, too can be expected here for the 718 Boxster Spyder to better cope with heightened performance offered by the more potent engine.

This teaser of what appears to be a production-bodied car should mean that its public debut should be taking place soon. The Frankfurt Motor Show, home country to Porsche will commence September 12, and is a key potential exhibition for the two-seater; it may even be ready for official unveiling before then.
