Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition debuts with 550 PS V8 – only available for one year

This is the Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition, a vehicle that has a rather long name but will only be on sale for a short time – one year to be exact.

Essentially, it is the fastest and most powerful Velar the company has ever made, with a top speed of 274 km/h and 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 seconds. One reason why the Velar SVA is so quick is because it packs a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 that makes 550 PS and 680 Nm of torque.

The mill is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive and an Active Rear Locking Differential, all specially calibrated for use with the V8. There’s also a bespoke exhaust setup with company’s Variable Active Exhaust System, which not only makes the V8 more audible, but also helps save 7.1 kg over the standard design.

To match the added grunt, the Velar SVA also gets beefier brakes, with 395-mm discs at the front and 396-mm ones at the rear – the former is coupled to four-piston calipers (sliding at the rear). The calipers themselves are painted red and feature Land Rover lettering on them – gloss black is available for a more discreet look.

For better dynamic control and performance, the SUV also gets upgraded anti-roll bars and revisions to the Continuously Variable Dampers so it works well with the air suspension’s stiffer springs. The car’s electric power steering has also been tuned to suit more enthusiastic on-road driving when required.

Despite the performance on tap, the Velar SVA remains rather subtle in appearance, with the only exterior changes being a new front bumper to better feed the V8 and cool the brakes. Elsewhere, there’s a new grille, 21-inch wheels (22-inch options available) and lower side mouldings, while the rear bumper sports quad exhaust finishers.

The interior isn’t stripped out in the interest of performance, as you’ll still get 20-way adjustable seats, the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display and plenty of premium materials.

The only unique touches present are the sports steering wheel, knurled finish for the infotainment system’s control dials and also for the rotary gear selector, and for a little extra, an optional carbon-fibre package.

Prices start at 86,120 British pounds (RM452,477), and you’ll get six exterior finishes to pick from – Firenze Red, Santorini Black, Corris Grey, Fuji White, Indus Silver and Satin Byron Blue. The last one is a a metallic paint finish from Special Vehicle Operations’ Premium Palette range, and is exclusive to the Velar SVA.
