Redesigned 2024 Buick Encore GX costs $995 more to $28,090

Buick unveiled the 2024 Encore GX on Thursday with a new look, more standard tech features, and a luxury-leaning Avenir trim. The redesigned small crossover will carry a higher starting price of $28,090, including an $1,195 destination fee.

That’s $995 more than the 2023 Buick Encore GX, but the 2024 Encore GX comes better equipped and sports a new design language expected to spread to other Buick crossovers. It includes a new take on Buick’s classic tri-shield crest that sits over a wide mesh grille trimmed with chrome. It’s flanked on either side by vertical fog lights, while the headlights up top rise up like scrutinizing eyebrows. Out back, new LED taillights frame the new badge and Encore lettering. Wheel sizes range from 18 to 19 inches. An ST trim adds black trim elements, an available black roof, and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. ST models start at $29,290.

The new Avenir trim borrowed from other Buicks tops the lineup at $34,390. A first for the Encore GX, the popular trim showcases a unique grille, 19-inch wheels, chrome bumper accents, and black body molding. The big difference comes inside, with beige on black leather upholstery, power front seats, a heated steering wheel, and all the Avenir badging.

The Encore GX competes with top trims of mainstream makes and premium brands such as the 2023 Lexus UX, 2023 Mazda CX-30, and 2023 Volvo XC40.

Inside all models Buick debuts its Virtual Cockpit System that houses an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.0-inch touchscreen under one piece of glass canted toward the driver. Buick promises an updated infotainment system with a customizable layout and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new dash curls like a hug toward occupants, and horizontal vents sit above a climate control system with real buttons as opposed to being buried in the touchscreen. A mechanical gear shifter beside cupholders fills the center console.

That shifter engages the same powertrains as last year. The 2024 Encore GX can be had with a 137-hp 1.2-liter turbo-3 or a 155-hp 1.3-liter turbo-3 that makes 174 lb-ft of torque. Those engines pair with a CVT on front-wheel-drive models, but available all-wheel drive swaps out the CVT for a 9-speed automatic transmission. Buick estimates 30 mpg combined with front-wheel drive, or 27 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.

Buick equips the Encore GX with standard driver-assist features such as automatic emergency braking, active lane control, automatic high beams, and offers options such as blind-spot mirrors and adaptive cruise control.

The 2024 Encore GX goes on sale in May.
