Sexy and Expensive: 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT63 4-Door Starts at $137K

We've loved the sexy Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe since it was first unveiled — and now we know that money can buy you love. This bougie beauty starts at $137,495 including $995 destination.

That's for the GT63 version with an AMG-tuned 577-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that puts out 590 pounds-feet of torque, along with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Standard performance goodies include active rear-wheel steering, an electronic rear differential, a deployable rear spoiler and AMG adaptive air suspension. All of this is good for an estimated 3.3 seconds from zero-to-60 mph and an electronically limited top speed of 193 mph.

If that price didn't make your ears pop, why stop there? For $159,995, you can move up to the GT 63 S, with a version of that V-8 tweaked for 630 horsepower and 664 pounds-feet, the nine-speed and all-wheel drive, plus extras including a performance exhaust system, active engine mounts, a race mode and (why not?) a drift mode. That's all good for zero-to-60 mph in 3.1 seconds and a 195-mph top speed — in a big and roomy sedan.

These top-of-the-line versions will be the launch models on sale in the U.S. in the first half 2019. A more modest GT53 mode, not yet priced, will follow with a 429-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder, nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive — not as powerful but wrapped in the same package. Full details of the AMG GT models and features are in our preview.

While the price is certainly high, it's more performance for the dollar among high-end sedans with a 500-hp-plus V-8. The rival Porsche Panamera starts at $151,050 with destination for the 550-hp 2018 Panamera Turbo. The AMG GT is more, however, than the also-coupelike Audi RS 7 hatchback with 560 hp, which starts for 2018 at $114,875, but also is less of a presence than the AMG GT.
