Social Distance Shop Tour: Editor Steven Rupp Has a Mark Stielow Pro Touring Camaro – Hot Rod

Now send us your shop tour video! See submission directions below.

If there’s an upside to being stuck at home with the family, one of them would have to be having time to get all those household chores done. But, once you’ve whittled down that honey-do list, it’s also a great time to spend some quality time in your garage.

In my case we’ve only lived here for about 6 months, so while my shop is looking OK, I’m still waiting on my four-post lift to be installed so I can get to the more involved projects. For now, I’m working on some firearm projects (my other hobby) and tinkering with my 1969 Camaro. The Camaro is a build from the mid-1990s done by Pro Touring founder Mark Stielow. In fact, this is the car where the term “Pro Touring” was coined, so it’s a pretty cool piece of history. (What’s the difference between Pro Touring and restomod, btw?) It raced in and won its class twice at the One Lap of America race and our plan is to update some parts of the car and try to do it again, nearly 30 years later!

Some of the projects I’m going to be doing is installing updated AutoMeter gauges, adding Vintage Air’s new 160-amp alternator kit, dealing with a bronze disty gear, and updating safety parts like the old harnesses, along with adding a Safecraft fire system. Once I get the lift, we can tackle a mini-tub and some Detroit Speed parts along with JRi shocks. I can also fix an annoying brake line leak that I can’t quite get to with a jack. See, the projects are already piling up.

So here’s a look at one tech editor’s garage while we’re spending more time at home.
