SPIED: 2019 Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan seen again!

Mercedes-AMG’s new A 35 4Matic hatchback will soon be joined by a sedan equivalent (likely called the A 35 4Matic Sedan), and the barely-clad prototype unit seen here (evidenced by the dual rounded exhaust tips) suggests that a world premiere is imminent. The entry-level AMG sedan should fill the void between the A 250 and an expected long-booted A 45 model, while fending off competition from the likes of the Audi S3.

Expect the facts and figures to closely mirror that of the hatch equivalent – the transversely mounted M260 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger will produce 306 hp and 400 Nm without any form of electrical assistance.

An AMG Performance 4Matic fully-variable all-wheel system (predominantly front-wheel drive) will be standard, as will a seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission. It should theoretically manage the century sprint in under five seconds – the A 35 hatch gets there in 4.7 seconds before maxing out at an electronically-capped top speed of 250 km/h.

The five AMG Dynamic Select drive modes – Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual and Slippery – should find their way here as well, along with a double-declutching feature in Sport+ which activates exhaust overruns achieved via precise retardation of ignition and injection. The optional Adaptive Damping System could be offered as well.

Inside, the A 35 Sedan will get the usual suite of AMG enhancements, from the AMG flat-bottomed steering wheel, AMG-specific trimmings and sports bucket seats that’s either wrapped in Artico man-made leather or Dinamica microfibre with red contrast stitching. The dual 10.25-inch screens are to be expected, including the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system multimedia system with intelligent voice control, as well as 64-colour ambient lighting.
