SPIED: Peugeot 1008 test mule seen – SUV due soon?

The test mule for what appears to be the Peugeot 1008 (name isn’t confirmed yet) SUV has been spotted once again, after being sighted for the first time in Southern Europe in August 2017. Nothing has changed since then – the prototype is still clad in the body of a 208, albeit raised considerably and fitted with fender flares that denote the wider tracks.

When viewed from the side, the rear doors are clearly longer, suggesting at a longer wheelbase. Besides that, we know little of the baby crossover, and it’s unclear when the successor to the 1007 will make its debut, both in concept and production form. While the 1007 featured a pair of sliding doors, its successor may skip that in favour of conventional hinged doors.

In terms of positioning, the 1008 will be the entry-level crossover for the French automaker, sitting below the 2008 in segment and price point. Power will likely come in the form of a three-cylinder petrol engine in varying outputs, with power sent to the front wheels through a manual transmission as standard. There should also be an automatic transmission available.

With Groupe PSA now the owner of the Opel and Vauxhall brands, there is also the likelihood that they could receive a version of the upcoming small crossover. For the Opel/Vauxhall brands, this new model will slot in below the Mokka X, which is a full-fledged B-segment crossover.
