SPYSHOTS: Proton Saga update seen testing in public

A test mule for the updated Proton Saga has been once again been spotted plying the roads locally, and here are some images courtesy of a paultan.org reader, Faiz. This time around, we additionally get a look at the car’s front end, which, like the rear, also gets revised bumpers for a refreshed look at both ends.

As par for the facelift course, the front bumper of the Proton Saga wears camouflage which indicates changes in this area, and seems to sport a larger air intake in the middle . Meanwhile, the corners of the bumper appear to have omitted the foglamps, though there is still camouflage in this area and could be relocated elsewhere. The headlamps appear to be the same as before, however.

As before, the rear end is still partly covered in camouflage, though we can see that as with the headlamps on this development vehicle, the rear lamp cluster appears to be unchanged as well, while the rear bumper is now a more simplified design compared to the one that came with the Saga at its launch almost three years ago. Here, the diffuser styling at the base of the rear bumper appears to have been smoothened out.

The sides of the Proton Saga appear to be unchanged when viewed in profile, with the character lines just beneath the daylight opening as well as at the base of the doors retained. There is however some camouflage applied to the wheels, which could indicate a new design for this update.

So far the Saga’s powertrain is expected to carry over the existing setup, which comprises the 1.3 litre VVT mill with 94 hp and 120 Nm of torque and paired to either a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. Inside, updates to the Saga interior can be expected, perhaps with a new head unit from the updated Iriz from the same folk who developed the GKUI unit on the X70 SUV.
