SPYSHOTS: Volkswagen ID.4X spotted in Opel clothes

What appears to be an Opel SUV really isn’t, say our spy photographer sources, for this is the Volkswagen ID.4X all-electric SUV that had been spotted earlier in Tiguan disguise, albeit with a longer wheelbase. The ID.4X is sized somewhere in between the Tiguan and the Tiguan Allspace according to our sources, with the aforementioned greater wheelbase for improved accommodation in its cabin.

Based on the company’s modular MEB electric vehicle platform, the development ID.4X unit seen here is similar in shape to the previously seen, production-bodied ID. Crozz in wearing a less sloping roofline instead of the coupe roof profile as seen on the ID. Crozz concept. This means a dual-motor setup and an 83 kWh battery pack for a range of around 500 km, and charging to 80% capacity is possible in 30 minutes.

As with the previous development vehicle’s sighting, the concept car’s sliding rear doors and its rails have made way for conventionally-opening units, and practical considerations will likewise drop the concept’s individual rear seats for a more typical folding bench layout for space and flexibility for bulky cargo items.

Luggage capacity will thus possibly improve upon the ID. Crozz concept’s 515 litres, given that the more upright roofline of the development car should free up more interior space. The concept ID. Crozz which measures 4,625 mm long, 1,891 mm wide and 1,609 mm wide is smaller than the Tiguan Allspace except for its width (the ID. Crozz is 56 mm wider), but it remains to be seen just how close the production ID.4X will be relative to the size of the ID. Crozz.

Production of the ID.4X is slated to follow shortly after the ID.3 hatchback sometime next year, while the productin equivalent of the ID. Buzz is slated for a 2022 release.
