Tata Motors announces new Ziptron electric car tech

Tata Motors has announced its new state-of-the-art electric vehicle technology called Ziptron, one that will find its way into the automaker’s electric cars, beginning with the FY20 that’s due to debut towards the end of the year.

According to the company, Ziptron is a building block towards commonality, and the move will drive economies of scale and make new technologies affordable for its customers in India. The system comprises a “highly efficient” permanent magnet AC motor, best-in-class dust and waterproof battery system that adheres to IP67 standards and comes with eight-year warranty, as well as smart regenerative braking system. Tata says the system also provides zippy performance, long range, and fast charging capability.

At the launch, Tata Motors’ CEO and managing director, Guenter Butschek said: “We are proud to present this state-of-art technology brand – Ziptron, which has been designed in-house while utilising our global engineering network. At the heart of our future EV line-up, this technology will deliver a thrilling driving experience to our customers aspiring to go-green.”



“Rigorously tested across one million kilometres, Ziptron technology is well proven, advanced and reliable. With this technology, we hope to usher in a new wave of eMobility in India and accelerate faster adoption of EVs, supporting the Government’s vision.”

Following the launch of Ziptron, Tata also rolled out the Ziptron Freedom 2.0 campaign which aims to highlight how this technology breaks existing barriers and provides freedom from pollution, addresses range anxiety, and offers electrifying driving performance.
