Tracy Mock, an NHS driver, had the dropped kerb installed outside her Stoke-on-Trent home two years ago. According to Stoke-on-Trent Council, the property owner is responsible for the cost of installing a dropped kerb, with planning permissions needed in some situations.

But the 54-year-old was left horrified when she returned home and discovered the manhole repair outside.

The manhole, which is situated just outside of a gate leading to Tracy’s home, has left a lip which could be seen as a trip hazard.

Whilst Severn Trent have apologised for the quality of the work, Tracy is still not happy with the situation.

She said: “Everything was done while I was working. When I got home I was like ‘you are joking’. It was a mess.

“One person turned up to put the barriers up, another two people turned up to fix the hole, and then another two turned up later to put rubble in.

“I saw the barriers leaning up against the wall. It was a terrible job.

“I paid £1,600 two years ago to get a dropped kerb so it was all done properly and was all neat – and then Severn Trent came along and left the work like this.

“I’ve done nothing but complain.”

Tracy said that the manhole now looked poor and that the quality could get worse, as she claims it was not done properly.

She continued: “It looks a mess and my concern is how soon before all that tarmac starts breaking up because they’ve not done it properly.

“There are holes in the gaps around the edges.

“It took them seven minutes to fill a hole.
