The new Bentley Flying Spur Grand Touring will get all-wheel steering

The 2019 Bentley Flying Spur offers either a V8 or W12, both of which provide a ton of power (500 hp or 626 hp).

Bentley will officially reveal its new Flying Spur Grand Touring sedan on June 11, but we have a handful of details today, including some extras we didn’t get on our development drive a few weeks ago.

The big news for the lux tourer is the addition of all-wheel steering, which is getting more and more popular on big and small cars alike. It works in a similar fashion to AWS systems on other vehicles, meaning at slow speeds the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction of the fronts decreasing the turning radius, and at high speeds they turn in the same direction. And when we say “turn,” we mean a few degrees of angle. On bigger cars, it basically has the effect of shortening the wheelbase, giving a more agile feel.

All-wheel drive returns, but this time the car stays in rear-wheel drive until slip is detected, “giving the classic sports sedan handling characteristics.” A sports sedan that weighs almost 3 tons. Bentley also says its Dynamic Ride should improve both comfort and handling. It changes suspension stiffness on demand during cornering.

There’s no news on the powertrain, which usually means it’ll be a carryover mill. In this case, that’s either a 6.0-liter W12 making 626 hp and 605 lb-ft of torque or a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 making 500 hp and 487 lb-ft. Neither will be slow, is what we’re saying.

Check out the video and come back in June for more details.
