This airborne Tesla Model S gives new meaning to Autopilot

The airborne Tesla Model S you see above was captured on video in Barrie, Ontario, the evening of Aug. 28 after it had accelerated over a railroad crossing at high speed. Several security cameras and one dash-cam captured the incident, showing the Model S traveling dozens of feet through the air and coming to a hard landing in the oncoming lane.

"When the vehicle approached the incline leading up to the railway tracks just north of Huronia Road, the vehicle became airborne and crashed over 100 feet into the opposing lane," BarrieToday.com reported. "The impact of the crash forced the vehicle to skid across the roadway and hit a tree in a nearby school parking lot."

BarrieToday.com indicated that city police later arrested and charged a 46-year-old resident of the city with dangerous driving after he and a female passenger were treated for minor injuries. Photos from the scene showed the damaged Tesla being loaded on to a tow truck. CTV News footage showed that both airbags had deployed and stated that the Tesla was written off as a total loss, but we have a feeling someone out there may be very interested in it.
