Elderly drivers: Confused.com put OAPs to the test
Cars from top brands such as Volkswagen, Mercedes, Skoda and Renault have been listed as the best cars for elderly drivers, according to experts at cinch.
Government data shows older drivers make up over five million motorists on UK roads.
This accounts for around 14 percent of all road users across the network making it an important market for businesses.
Space, reliability and safety are all key components for older motorists and cinch has identified the top five on the market.

Skoda Fabia
Skoda has a reputation for reliability making the Fabia a hassle-free option for road users. The model also has more room than many of its rivals putting it as an ideal family runaround.
Ageco, owned by Age UK, has also identified the Fabia as one of the safest cars for older motorists. EuroNCAP rated the Fabia the safest small family car on the market back in 2021.
Data from the group found the Fabia had an 85 percent adult occupant safety rating with an 81 percent rating for children making the car ideal for grandparents.
Seat Arona
Demand for SUVs has soared in recent years with the Seat Arona one of the best picks on the market. The car also achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating and comes with a range of smart safety features.
This included a High Beam Assist mode which automatically adjusts headlight brightness while a tiredness recognition system picks up fatigue.
The model offers a generous fuel efficiency rate of up to 53mpg and is available to buy brand new for as little as £20,000.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class
This is one of the safest options for motorists with a Euro NCAP adult occupant rating of 96 percent. The car has a range of extra technology features such as Active Brake Assist which can automatically stop the vehicle in emergencies.
The car’s interior is also very spacious making it an ideal choice to pick the grandchildren up for days out.
Cinch said: “The Mercedes-Benz B-Class offers many useful features for older drivers. As a compact people carrier, the seats are slightly higher set – and they’re very comfortable.”
Volkswagen Polo GTI
Volkswagen continues its run as Europe’s best-selling car brand with models loved by millions across the world. The GTI version offers an extra kick on other hatchback rivals making this a great option for elderly petrolheads.
Polo’s can be purchased from just £19,000 while drivers can get a fuel efficiency of up to 54mpg.
Renault Zoe
This is one of the cheapest electric cars on ten market and could be the best choice for those living in cities.
New Clean Air Zone fees have been introduced in many of the UK’s big regions with London expanding their Ultra Low Emission Zone as far as Harrow and Bromley later this month. The new daily £12.50 per day fees are likely to be a huge blow to pensioners but EVs will be exempt from fees.
Cinch explained: “If you have a drive or garage, you can have a charger fitted, which will make it cheaper to run than a petrol or diesel car. You’ll also be doing your bit to improve the environment for your children and grandchildren.”
