1987: Chrysler-ized Mitsubishi Starion caged for dockworkers' safety

When Mitsubishi began selling cars under its own name in the United States, the Starion was right there with the Tredia, Cordia and Mighty Max for the 1983 model year. Naturally, Chrysler — having been selling Mitsubishi-built Colts, Arrows, Challengers and Ram 50s for years — didn't take long to start slapping Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler badges onto Starions, calling them Conquests. For 1984 through 1986, American car shoppers could buy Mitsubishi's turbocharged hot rod with either Dodge or Plymouth badging; for 1987 through 1989, all the Conquests were Chryslers. This TV ad for the first year of the Chrysler Conquest let potential buyers know that the Conquest was so dangerous that it thirsted for human blood … wait, is that the message they wanted?
