Learn Porsche 911 Design History in 8 Minutes

Here’s a cool video about the design of the legendary Porsche 911. Narrator Benjamin Parker takes us though the basics of early automobile design, highlighting which pillars are which and what a greenhouse is. He also breaks down the Porsche family tree.

The video features a lot of archival footage, noting that the 911 “was the only car that could compete in an African safari, at Le Mans, go to a theater and through traffic in New York City.”

The main focus are the A, B, and C pillars, and how they change (and stay the same) over the years for different vehicles. With the 911, they didn’t change very much. On the Tesla, even its differently shaped vehicles all use the same shape of pillars. Later we get a Hofmeister Kink reference.
