Lamborghini Is Building an 830-HP V-12 Hypercar for the Track

Lamborghini revealed over the weekend it’s developing a new track-only, 830-horsepower hypercar that will use a carbon monocoque, a sequential transmission, and sport some serious aero. The company released just one picture with the announcement, giving us a sneak peek of what it has in store.

It’s clear this car is meant for the track. There’s a big wing out back, a flattened nose, a massive splitter, dual air intakes, a roof scoop, and lots of other cosmetic touches meant designed to cut through the air as efficiently as possible. It will be powered by an 830-hp version of the Aventador’s 6.5-liter V-12 engine.

According to Lamborghini, the monocoque will be supported by an aluminum frame up front, and a steel cage out back to nestle that massive V-12 engine. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed Xtrac sequential that doubles as a load-bearing part of the chassis. The differential is a self-locking mechanical type that “allows the driver to adjust its preload dynamically to optimize drivability depending on the circuit and the conditions of the asphalt.”

Sounds fun.

Lamborghini says the car will debut in 2020, in a limited run. Aside from the power figure, no performance stats have been revealed. Pricing is also still up in the air, but given how expensive your average limited-edition exotic is, we’re betting it’ll break the seven-figure barrier with ease.
