If you remember correctly, Mitsubishi sold the very last Lancer Evolution Final Edition on eBay back in 2016. The car was discontinued after that, meaning you couldn’t buy a new one anymore from Mitsubishi—at least, that’s what we thought.
Occasional Road & Track contributor Mark Baruth pointed out on Twitter that Brooklyn Mitsubishi in New York has the very first out of the 1600 Final Editions built for sale on its website right now. The car wears the “US0001” serial number badge on its center console, and has just 35 miles on the odometer. I called Brooklyn Mitsubishi to confirm the car was in fact for sale at their dealership, and a representative told me it was, and that it’s never been titled or registered. Remember, this is a 2015 model year car.
Like all other Lancer Evo Final Editions, it comes with a 303-horsepower turbocharged inline-four sending power to all four wheels via a five-speed (yes, five speeds, for a performance car in 2015) manual gearbox. It also has a bespoke Final Edition badge out back, a black-painted aluminum roof, gray wheels, and a gloss black grille.
It’s currently listed on Autotrader for $47,888—about $10,000 over the Final Edition’s original MSRP. Interestingly, if you visit the dealer’s site, it’s listed there for a staggering $87,888. The dealership did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding the discrepancy in the listed prices, nor did it respond regarding why the car still hasn’t sold nearly two years after it was built, though we have a feeling those prices might be why.
If you’re heartbroken Mitsubishi is no longer selling the Lancer Evolution, this might be your last chance to buy a new one that’s never been owned by anyone else. But considering these list prices, you better be prepared to fork over some major cash. Don’t forget, someone paid $76,400 for the very last example.
