Photos of what appear to be a lightly camouflaged prototype of the all-new 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class have appeared online. The images, published by Instagram user cochespias, show a modern fascia and a CLS-like rear end, as well as a redesigned interior.

The front grille area has been totally revamped to reflect Mercedes’s current corporate fascia, with more aggressive headlights and slimmer, lower intake sections. It looks like a bigger E-Class, to put it simply. The back section’s streamlined taillight design looks as if it was lifted directly from the company’s CLS fastback sedan.

The most interesting pictures, though, are of the car’s interior. Gone are the double widescreen displays in the current S-Class, replaced by a new central digital gauge cluster, complemented by what looks to be another display directly behind it, mounted farther into the dashboard. Most of the center console’s controls look to have been substituted for a vertically mounted touchscreen. Other highlights include a new steering wheel and thin, vertical air vents.

If this really is the next S-Class, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it unveiled officially sometime this year. Drivetrain-wise, it’ll likely receive a version of the company’s new hybrid inline-six engine, with the AMG version getting the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 found in nearly every other new high-performance Mercedes.
