2020 Acura TLX PMC Edition will debut at the New York auto show

Acura is not revealing a new model at the New York International Auto Show in the traditional sense. Instead, Honda’s North American performance brand wants to showcase work done by its Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio, with a special edition TLX. This is the same plant that builds the NSX, by the way.

Called the TLX PMC Edition, this trim level is the highest-spec TLX you can get. Power will come from a direct-injected V6 producing a peak 290 hp at 6,200 rpm and 267 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm and will be delivered via a nine-speed automatic to all four wheels. Torque-vectoring will be done through Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive setup. The PMC Edition also includes A-Spec and Advance packages, so you have things like navigation and premium audio.

Valencia red pearl paint is the real standout for this TLX, however. It is a paint, after all, with something called "nano-pigment" technology: It uses mica, metal-flake and super-high-transparency pigments, which is good, I think (not a paint expert). The point is PMC puts a lot of time, five days in total, and effort into applying it to the TLX.

Starting with a TLX platform body-in-white, PMC technicians hand-assemble these versions of the midsize premium sedan after all paint application is complete. Part of the assembly includes unique gloss black 19-inch wheels, roof panel, door handles and pentagon grille. There are also black chrome exhaust tips. Inside, the seats are leather and, you guessed it, black. For color, the stitching for the seats and steering wheel are red, as is the door panel, center console and armrest.

When completed, an individually numbered plaque is mounted on the lower console as a reminder PMCs work. Deliveries of the PMC edition start in the summer. Production will be limited, but Acura did not specify a number. That’s true of pricing as well, but expect to pay around $50,000. If you like the concept, but prefer to roll in a crossover, a PMC edition MDX is coming soon as well.

Look for the 2020 Acura TLX PMC Edition to be displayed at the New York auto show starting April 19.
