2021 Volkswagen Arteon Big Sur Concept Is a Different Kind of Hot Hatch

In a league of its own, the Volkswagen Arteon offers midsize sedan comfort, a premium vibe, and the sporty look of a coupe. The graceful VW four-door coupe is one of the few vehicles on the market delivering the best of the sedan and style worlds. Volkswagen decided its most premium car needed something more … like an aesthetic makeover, and has unveiled the 2021 Volkswagen Arteon Big Sur concept to inspire owners’ creativity with their own Arteons.

This green vinyl-wrapped Arteon concept received inspiration from Big Sur, the breathtaking stretch of California coastline along Highway 1. It took just under a month to complete the transformation, and the Arteon is the latest model to join Volkswagen’s 2021 Enthusiast Fleet.

The design team began with a 2021 Arteon SEL Premium R-Line in Urano Gray and installed the custom bright green vinyl wrap by taking apart the sedan, including the hatch, doors, and hood. An all-green Golf R that Rotiform presented at the 2019 SEMA Show inspired the choice of color, and from a distance, the perfectly installed vinyl wrap looks like a paint job.

Boasting a sleek body and elegant design in its original form, the Arteon’s additional modifications that transform it into the Big Sur concept include a coil-over suspension and Voomeran Lower Valence body kit. This setup lowers the Arteon by approximately 1.5 inches but can be adjusted as low as 2.5 inches, adding more stance. The Arteon concept rides on gloss black 20-inch wheels Rotiform TUF-R cast monoblock wheels wrapped in 245/45 R20 Continental Tire Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus tires. These upgraded wheels complement the green vinyl perfectly.

As a quick refresher, the Volkswagen Arteon features a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the former of which is good for 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It is available in three trims SE, SEL R-Line, and the range-topping SEL Premium R-Line; front-wheel drive is standard, while an all-wheel-drive system is optional.

Along with the rest of the 2021 Volkswagen Enthusiast Fleet, VW fans will be able to get a glimpse of the gorgeous Arteon Big Sur concept at enthusiast events hosted by Volkswagen across the country. So, have an Arteon and a local vinyl wrapper? Have at it.
